AURORA, Colo. -- Jurors in Arapahoe County are deliberating in a murder trial in which one of the witnesses was shot to death before he could testify.Sir Mario Owens is charged with killing Gregory Vann at Lowry Park in Aurora during a Fourth of July celebration in 2004.Vann's mother spoke to the media for the first time Friday.
Owens still faces trial in the shooting death of Javad Marshall-Fields and his fiancee Vivian Wolfe. The college sweethearts were gunned down in the middle of an intersection the night before Marshall-Fields was to testify in the Lowry Park murder case.Marshall-Fields and Vann had held the party in the park when a car with Owens and Robert Ray pulled up and there was a confrontation. A shooting ensued and Vann was killed and Marshall-Fields was injured.Owens' attorney said Owens was attacked and acted in self defense.Ray has already been convicted of being an accessory to murder in Vann's death. Ray faces 32 to 108 years in prison on seven of the nine charges. He'll be sentenced in February.
