Prosecution Wraps Up Road Rage Murder Case

Defense Witnesses Take Stand

The prosecution wrapped up its case Tuesday against Jason Reynolds, the man accused of being responsible for the deaths of two people in a road rage crash on E-470 in November 2005.

Prosecutors argued that Reynolds triggered a crash that killed 55-year-old Kelvin Norman and 35-year-old Greg Boss on E-470 just east of Parker Road.

Prosecutors said when Reynolds passed Norman's Toyota 4-Runner, he cut him off and then slammed on his brakes at 75 mph forcing Norman to swerve into oncoming traffic and into Boss' vehicle.

Both Norman and Boss were killed instantly.

The defense began its case Tuesday, arguing that while Reynolds was there and driving his jeep, he did not cause the accident.

A paid expert witness for the defense took the stand and said that Norman lost control of the Toyota and that there was no physical evidence that Reynolds slammed on his brakes, leading to the crash.

Under cross-examination the prosecution reminded the expert, a sergeant of the traffic unit with the Greenwood Village Police Department, that Reynolds told state troopers that he "swooped in front of the Toyota and slammed half my boot on the brake," making the vehicle behind him have to slow down and react quickly.

The defense said Reynolds will not take the stand.

A prosecutor said according to their research, this is the first time a district has pursued a first-degree murder case in a road rage incident in Colorado's history.

District attorney spokeswoman Kathleen Walsh said closing arguments will take place Wednesday at 1 p.m. and then the case will be turned over to the jury.

If Reynolds is convicted he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
