UPDATED: 6:42 pm MST December 13, 2006

A man who is a quadriplegic who relies on his specially modified van to get around, had his van stolen.

Louis Villano said a thief took off in his van sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning.

It was parked in front of his Lakewood home at the time. Villano said he can't imagine who could do such a thing.

"I don't even know what to think," said Villano. "That's disgusting that they would do that."

The van is a 1998 Ford Clubwagon with a lift on the side.

Villano coaches a sixth-grade recreational basketball team. There was a gym bag with balls inside the van when it was stolen, so now the team is in need of new basketballs.

After this story aired on 7NEWS Wednesday evening, a viewer called in and offered to buy the team new equipment.

Anyone with information on the stolen van is asked to call Lakewood police.
