ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Englewood police found a woman's body inside a home following a short standoff between police and a man inside the home on Tuesday night.Police were called to the home on South Pennsylvania just before 4:30 p.m. on reports of a drug overdose. Aurora police had requested Englewood police show up at the home, and actually met the officers at the scene. The officers at the scene determined that given the reports of someone witnessing a drug overdose, a welfare check on the occupants of the home was necessary, but no one answered the door, Englewood police said.
Moments later, a man with a dog walked onto the porch of the home. Officers tried to talk to him but he ran into the house pursued by the officers, police said. The man ran to the basement, where he barricaded himself in a room. The subject refused to leave the room after repeated requests from the officers at the scene, police said. The Englewood Police Tactical and Negotiations units were called to the scene about 15 minutes later.During the negotiations, the man informed the negotiator that a dead body was inside the room he occupied. The tactical commander determined that they needed to force their way into the home immediately.Upon breaching the room, officers took the man into custody without incident.Inside the room, officers discovered a woman dead. The male subject was taken into custody and transported to the Englewood Police Station for the ongoing investigation.Neither the names of the woman nor the man in the standoff have been released. The circumstances surrounding the woman's death iare under investigation.
