DENVER -- A former teacher accused of having sex with her teenage student appeared before a judge Tuesday.

Carrie McCandless is charged with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

The former Brighton Charter High School teacher allegedly had sex with a 17-year-old male student.

She is due back in court on Friday.

On Monday night, the Brighton charter school and the Brighton school district met to discuss the sex scandal. The district said it was not informed of the allegations in a timely manner. Now the school's charter could be punished.
