DENVER -- Report cards on the performance of your child's school are in the mail. That accountability report includes test scores, dropout rates, teacher pay and school safety. But, it's not telling you everything.
Sunday, 7NEWS Investigates began a series of stories on dangerous weapons, holding schools accountable.7NEWS Investigator Tony Kovaleski looked into what the reports are not telling you.Our three-month analysis found that when it comes to dangerous weapons, this report gives you raw data, but no perspective, no point of comparison -- It's nothing more than numbers.Until now, you had no way of knowing if your child's school district has more dangerous weapons than any other district. We analyzed reports from the Denver area's ten largest school districts, and here's what we found. This perspective is based on incidents per 1,000 students.First, the four districts with the most reports of dangerous weapons on campus last year:Adams 12 DistrictJefferson County DistrictAdams 50 District in WestminsterAnd if your child attends Denver Public Schools, our analysis shows that district with the most reports of dangerous weapons on campus. Now the districts with the fewest reported dangerous weapons -- again, these are the districts with the fewest reports:Aurora Public School DistrictCherry Creek School DistrictDouglas County School DistrictIf your child attends school in the St. Vrain District, their district had the fewest reports of dangerous weapons on its campuses.
