T-REX Steps Onto I-25 Monday
First Lane Shifts, Then Barriers, Oh My!
POSTED: 6:13 p.m. MST November 4, 2001
DENVER -- If you've thought that T-REX construction really hasn't affected you that much, get ready.
The Monday morning commute was the first one to experience visible changes on Interstate 25.
Engineers started with a section of I-25 southbound between Hampden and Quincy, 7NEWS reported.
Traffic workers narrowed the lanes and shifted them slightly to the west.
That will allow work to begin on the shoulder to the right. Concrete barriers will be going up along the shoulder, to create a temporary traffic lane that will be used in the future, according to 7NEWS.
Motorists will feel a bit more pinched -- the new lanes are about one foot narrower. Also, the work will create distractions for drivers, and likely, some slowdowns.
Drivers were advised to get an early start and be prepared for sudden braking and delays.
The Hampden on-ramp off of Belleview will also be shut down. Workers will start erecting barriers, which will mean that drivers must merge into the regular traffic flow, 7NEWS reported.
Nighttime restriping work to shift traffic away from work areas on the right side of southbound I-25 will continue through Thursday. Slowing of nighttime traffic is expected.
On Nov. 18, T-REX contractors will begin nighttime restriping of southbound I-25 between Quincy and Belleview Avenue and northbound I-25 between Dry Creek Road and Quincy.
By the end of the year, you'll be able to use the T-REX Web site's e-mail notification program, tailored to your specific commute. Those who register their personal commute information will receive regular updates and real-time traffic information by computer, pager or cell phone.
