Two people were killed and two others were injured in a crash on US 191 Wednesday just 10 miles north of Farson, WY, said Wyoming Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Patrol said a 2002 Ford Focus occupied by 30-year-old Chad Turk and 23-year-old Nathan Murphy was traveling southbound on US 191 when it crossed into the northbound lanes in an attempt to pass a semi, the Patrol said. The Focus then crashed head-on with a Ford pickup.

The Patrol said upon impact, the Focus broke into five separate pieces.

Both Turk and Murphy died at the scene, the Patrol said.

Witnesses told authorities that prior to the crash, the Focus had been driving in an erratic manner. Troopers estimate the speed of the car prior to the crash at 75 mph and possibly as fast as 100 mph.

The pickup was occupied by 71-year-old Theodore Bultsma and 69-year-old Carol Bultsma. They were both taken to Sweetwater County Memorial Hospital in Rock Springs.

The extent of their injuries has not been released.

The Patrol said none of the victims were wearing seat belts.

The roadways at the time of the crash were dry and weather conditions were clear, authorities said.

Investigators said alcohol and drug use may have been a factor in the crash.

In Colorado, a man was killed in a separate head-on collision on Highway 287 at milepost 359 around 6:45 a.m. Thursday.

The crash happened about two miles north of Highway 14.

Colorado State Patrol troopers said a Dodge pickup crossed over into the southbound lane and crashed head-on with a semi-truck driven by 42-year-old Timothy Beardslee.

The driver of the Dodge died at the scene, the CSP said. His name is being withheld until his family has been notified.

Beardslee was not injured.

Highway 287 was closed for about four hours after the crash.
