DENVER -- Qwest Communications International has withdrawn
plans to charge Colorado customers a fee to keep their addresses
private.
The Denver-based phone company planned to charge customers an
$8 one-time fee and a dollar a month to omit their addresses from directory assistance and telephone directories.
The Colorado Public Utilities Commission expressed concern about
the plan and scheduled a public hearing on it.
The commission has received about 800 letters and telephone
calls from consumers protesting the plan.
Qwest spokeswoman Catherine Murphy says the company withdrew the
proposal to evaluate concerns raised by the commission and
consumers.
