DENVER -- Two Saudi brothers held by federal authorities since shortly after the terrorist attacks had no connection to the events, an FBI spokeswoman confirmed Wednesday.
Sami Talal Alshaalan, 28, and Sattan Talal Alshaalan, 23, were released from custody Wednesday.
The two had been in custody since they were arrested at Denver
International Airport on Sept. 15. They were questioned by FBI
agents who determined they had no role in the Sept. 11 hijackings
of four airliners, FBI spokeswoman Ann Atanasio said.
Immigration and Naturalization Service officials said they could not comment on any specific case, and did not return phone calls made Wednesday seeking comment.
The Alshaalan brothers' attorney, Donna Lipinski, said that the lengthy detainment was unnecessary, and that both men cooperated fully with the FBI.
She said a hearing would be scheduled later on allegations of violations of the brothers' student visas.
The brothers (pictured, right) were initially picked up by authorities for a traffic violation and disturbing the peace, and they will face charges for minor immigration violations, 7NEWS reported.
