A $1 million bond has been set for a man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a Denver girl earlier in June.
Bret Lee Luckett Thompson appeared in a Denver courtroom Saturday morning on charges including felony second-degree kidnapping and felony sexual assault on a child.
Thompson, 27, was extradited from North Brunswick, N.J., where he was arrested and arrived in Denver on Friday. He was immediately booked into Denver Jail.
He is suspected of abducting the 8-year-old girl June 2 from an alley where she was playing. The girl was found about an hour later at a gas station. Thompson was arrested June 13 in North Brunswick, N.J.
Thompson's mother, Sylvia Luckett, attended the court appearance. She said she was numb and still trying to come to terms that everything that has happened.
Luckett said jail was the safest place for Thompson and that he was a flight risk.
"I still love him," she said.
