DENVER – Colorado lawmakers Tuesday will once again debate increasing the fine for texting and driving.

The current penalty for first-time offenders is $50.

Under Senate Bill 27, the fine would increase to $300 for texting and driving in a careless and imprudent manner.

The proposed bill awaits an appropriations committee. If it passes that committee, it will go to the full state Senate.
