Denver, CO -- (Sports Network) - The Denver Nuggets extended a qualifying offer to restricted free agent forward J.R. Smith on Friday.

The athletic Smith averaged 12.3 points in 74 regular season games and 18.3 points in four playoff contests for the Nuggets last season.

By giving Smith the offer, Denver retains the right of first refusal if another team signs the four-year veteran to an offer sheet.
