Debbie's Deals: The best learn to ski, snowboard deals in January in Colorado

Want to learn how to ski or snowboard, or want your kids to learn? January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month.

While most of Colorado's ski areas and resorts are offering discounts on rentals, lift tickets and/or classes, here are the best deals.

Arapahoe Basin

The cheapest deal for one lesson is at Arapahoe Basin. First Timer, half-day lessons for adults are $70 and include the lesson and lift ticket. Equipment rentals are not included. For a full list of available dates and more details visit http://arapahoebasin.com/ABasin/lessons/lssm.aspx.

Copper Mountain

If you're looking for a deal on lessons, that comes with a SEASON PASS, then Copper Mountain is the best choice. Copper Mountain’s Ski and Ride University offers three lessons with lift tickets, equipment rentals, close in parking and lunch on the 2nd and 3rd day for $249. After completing the 3rd lesson, graduates receive a free Copper Mountain season pass for the remainder of the season and 50 percent off next seasons’ pass. Those wanting to enroll in Ski and Ride University must purchase the product in person, be 18 years of age or older and new to skiing and snowboarding.

Purgatory Resort

Purgatory Snowsports Schoolhas the cheapest deal on two days of lessons. Their special learn to ski and snowboard package starts at $74 and includes 2 days of lift tickets, rental gear and full day beginner lessons. On the third day, participants receive a free lift ticket, 50 percent off rental gear and 50 percent off a half-day lesson. Participants also receive a 50 percent off discount card on lift tickets, rentals and lessons for the remainder of the season. 

Powderhorn

Powderhorn’s Learn to Ski or Snowboard program is for first timer skiers aged 5 and older and Snowboarders aged 7 and older. The program includes three full-days of lessons, EZ rider lift tickets and rentals for $169. Upon completion, participants will receive a Graduate Card that entitles them to 50 percent off any additional lessons, rentals or lift tickets for the remainder of the winter season. Lessons are available Thursday-Sunday. Lesson times are 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Steamboat

Steamboat’s Learn to Ski/Ride Package includes two days of lessons, rentals and lift tickets for $199 from January 9-31. Learn to Ski/Ride is available for adults and children ages 1st grade and older.

Again, most resorts and ski areas are having a January special. If you have a place you prefer to visit, check their website for their January deal.
