Frontier Airlines is having a $1 sale to celebrate its birthday. Of course, with any airline deal there's an asterisk. In this case, with taxes and fees, the minimum fares are actually $20.
But can you really find a $20 fare from Denver? We decided to check.
Frontier's website says the $20 fares are available from Denver to Dallas, Phoenix and Salt Lake City. The Phoenix deal is available 8/23/2016 - 10/26/2016. It's valid for flights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays. Blackout dates apply of Sep. 1-2 and Sep. 5-6, 2016.
We searched and found the $20 fares available on August 23, 24, 25, 30, 31, September 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29 and October 4, 5, 18, 19, 20, 25 and 26.
We even found $20 return flights on 4 dates in August, 7 dates in September and 8 days in October. The return fares are only available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so you'll have to stay several days to get a $20 fare to Phoenix and back.
If you decide to buy the $40 fare, remember Frontier Airlines charges extra for both carry-on and checked baggage. Checked bags start at $25, carry-on bags start at $30 and the prices go up depending on when you pay the bag free and where. Learn more here.
There's also a fee, starting at $6 each way, to pick your seat on the plane. You don't have to pay the fee, but you could end up sitting anywhere on the plane.
Note, several families have told me that they buy the cheap tickets and pay for one checked bag for the whole family, so they can travel cheaper. If you're flying as a family and don't pay for seats together, you may not sit together.
The Frontier sale includes $69 one-way tickets to Santa Ana (think Disneyland), $64 one-way tickets to Los Angeles (think Universal Studios), $99 one-way tickets to New York, $89 one-way tickets to San Diego (think San Diego Zoo and Sea World). See all the deals here.
