Without a garage or carport, defrosting your windows in the middle of winter can be a real drag, especially when the de-icer has run out and you just can't bear the thought of scraping one more time.
Obviously, covering your car is the best "trick" to avoid the ice scraper, but if this isn't an option the folks at wisebread.com have a solution for you -- homemade de-icer.
It's cheap and most everyone will have the supplies at home.
-- Mix 3 parts vinegar with 1 part water in a spray bottle and apply to all your vehicle's windows before the weather rolls in. This should prevent ice and/or snow from sticking.
-- Mix one part water to two parts rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and apply to the windows. The ice should come right off.
-- Use a bottle of 70 percent isopropyl alcohol with a few drops of dish soap. Apply to windows with a spray bottle.
An extra tip from the folks at Wisebread: Add alcohol to your washer fluid (a 50/50 mix) to keep the wiper lines from freezing.
