DENVER -- The Mile High City may be one of the best places to live in the country, but jobs experts say it's one of the worst places in the country to work.
As it turns out, three out of four people report that they hate their job and Colorado is known around the country as having one of the worst workplace environments.
Studies show this could be because of two reasons:
1. Managers have poor training
2. Companies aren't making decisions as reflected in their values
Denver7 spoke to a local consultant whose mission is to "end suffering in the work place," and she said low morale is terrible business for everyone.
"Nobody wins. The customers, the employees, the company, the boss, everybody loses," said Kendra Prospero, CEO and founder of Turning the Corner. "Yet we're not doing anything to make it better. So we need to do that as a society."
Having a bad workplace environment also costs companies. Turnover costs about $2,500 pe employee, and that's on the low end.
Prospero said companies don't fix their internal issues because they think it's too difficult, but it's actually not.
After interviewing a ton of unhappy employees, she's found it almost always comes back to poor management, and she believes having an HR team engaged with employees and their wellbeing could improve morale.
