DENVER - Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton is going into the auto business.
Helton teamed up with auto dealer Mike Peebles to buy and rebrand Columbine Ford dealership in Rifle, reported the Denver Post.
Helton, 39, has one year left on his contract with the Rockies. He was sidelined this season with a right-hip injury. Helton has said he will return to the team in 2013.
Former athletes and car sales seem to make a good business combination. John Elway is perhaps the most famous local example.
Former Broncos linebacker Randy Gradishar also owns a stake in an auto dealership.
