BOULDER, Colo. -- When an old home is leveled or when someone finishes remodeling a home, there's a lot of perfectly good stuff that could end up in a landfill when it could go into another home.If you're thinking of tackling a home improvement project and don't like the idea of high costs, check out to ReSource, a site located in the outskirts of Boulder."One of our most popular items are cabinets -- cabinets, windows and doors are what we get most of," said McCaren Avalon, operations manager of ReSource.
There's also the occasional drinking fountain and dentist chair."We have solar collectors. We've also got air conditioning units," said Avalon.Avalon said that ReSource grew out of the belief that too much stuff gets thrown away unnecessarily. The nonprofit uses the thrift shop model. Those who donate get a tax break."We are a nonprofit so people can get a tax donation break at the end of the year," said Avalon.Best bets for buyers may be the doors and windows and some of the lumber."We, you know, try to stay current with retail prices and we do sell everything at 30 to 50 percent below retail," said Avalon.ReSource is located on 63rd street in Boulder, between Valmont and Arapahoe. It's open seven days a week. Cash, checks or Visa and Mastercard are welcome. While exchanges and credits are okay, there are no refunds. To learn more call (303) 419-5418 or go to ReSource2k.org.The store is operated by the Center for Resource Conservation. To learn more about the group go to ConservationCenter.org or call (303) 441-3278. They are located at 1702 Walnut Street in Boulder.
