The motto at Sunflower Market is "serious food -- silly prices," and they're not joking about that, Consumer Champ Bill Clarke said. Some of the Sunflower concept comes from a typical discount supermarket chain, some of it comes from the organic and natural foods movement, and some of it comes from a California chain called Trader Joe's, which specializes in discount gourmet foods. Some of the brands sold in the store are familiar ones. Others are perhaps not so familiar. But in almost every case, the prices are at or below supermarket levels.
The produce department alone is reason enough to come to Sunflower, Clarke said. The specials change from week to week, but last week the specials were three red and yellow bell peppers for $1 and two pineapples on sale for $3."They don't even sell them this cheap at Costco," one customer said. And that makes Sunflower popular with growing legions of customers. For more information on Sunflower Market check out http://www.sfmarkets.com/. There are two locations in Colorado: 2880 S.
