DENVER -- If you need to file for unemployment in Colorado, be prepared to wait. This is historically the busiest month for the unemployment office.David Miracle knows the number to the Colorado Unemployment Office by heart. Since November, the father of three has been trying to get his claim settled."You fight tooth and nail to get that, it's just a constant struggle,” said Miracle.
The Colorado Department of Labor has added more operators and overtime in recent months. Yet, the system uses a computer system from 1985. The State points out new claims doubled in just two years...at a time when money in state government is tight."To someone who is very frustrated right now, what can you say to them. I can say to them, we understand that you're frustrated. We believe we're doing everything we possibly can,” said Steve Fowler of the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.Miracle is hoping for something miraculous, to get someone from the State to answer his call."Whatever they need to do. That's their job at the State of Colorado,” noted Miracle.
