DENVER -- The Denver Center for the Performing Arts is giving away theatre tickets. I got mine this week. I received an e-mail offering me two free tickets to see a show.

The bad news? While I got 6 days notice, it wasn't a show I wanted to see and the tickets are not transferable.

You can get theatre tickets for free too. It's made possible by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District tax paid in the seven-county Denver metro area.

In the past, DCPA tickets were given away to certain shows and each person wanting a ticket had to stand in line.

Now, the DCPA has a Web-based ticket drawing. You apply for a chance to win free tickets and when you're chosen, you can bring a guest.

According to the DCPA Web site, you simply apply and they will e-mail you if you're chosen in a random drawing when they have tickets available.

Officials said free ticket recipients will be contacted approximately 2 weeks before the performance and a minimum of 48 hours before the performance date. Recipients must confirm they will attend the performance when contacted. As I said, I was given 6 days notice. I was on the list for 3 months before my name came up for free tickets. Hopefully my name will be chosen again sometime.
