Xcel Wants To Raise Rates
Company Says It Needs $61.5 Million

DENVER -- Excel Energy filed to raise electricity rates in Colorado Monday.In a news release, the company said it will ask for $14.6 million or about 2.6 percent for residential and small-business customers.If approved, the increase would raise rates for customers using 625 kilowat-hours a month by $1.43 to $56.23 a month. A typical small business customer using 1,025 kilowat-hours would see an increase of $2.33.
Xcel said while fuel prices have decreased by about 44 percent, the company needs to fill a $61.5 million gap from last quarter.
