Guerrero, Figgins Among Those To File For Free Agency

POSTED: 9:44 pm MST November 6, 2009

(Sports Network) - Outfielder Vladimir Guerrero and third baseman Chone Figgins of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim were two of the 39 players that filed for free agency on Friday.

Guerrero, who has spent the last six seasons in LA, was hampered by a pectoral muscle tear that caused him to miss over a month last season. In 100 games, the free-swinging slugger hit .295 with 15 homers and 50 RBI.

Guerrero, who will turn 35 by the start of next season, has 407 career homers with 1,318 RBI throughout his 14-year career, which started in Montreal.

Figgins, 31, hit .298, stole 42 bases and scored a career-high 114 runs out of Anaheim's leadoff spot last year. In eight seasons -- all with the Angels -- Figgins has 280 steals and a .291 career average.

The Phillies had three players file for free agency two days after the team fell in the World Series. Pitchers Pedro Martinez, the future Hall-of-Famer who took losses in Games 2 and 6 of the Fall Classic, and Brett Myers joined infielder Miguel Cairo on the free agent block.

The world champion Yankees have yet to see any of their players file for free agency.

Other players filing were pitcher Erik Bedard (Mariners), reliever LaTroy Hawkins (Astros), outfielder Jermaine Dye (White Sox), catchers Yorvit Torrealba (Rockies) and Bengie Molina (Giants), and shortstops Marco Scutaro (Blue Jays) and Miguel Tejada (Astros).
