Game 2: Philadelphia - Cole Hamels (12-8, 3.01) New York - Johan Santana (12-7, 2.71)

(Sports Network) - Shea Stadium's role in the Phillies-Mets rivalry will come to an end today. Philadelphia makes its final visit to New York's home ballpark with a day-night doubleheader to conclude a three-game series.

Today's twin bill will also close out the season set between the two National League East rivals. The doubleheader became necessary when Saturday's game was postponed due to Tropical Storm Hanna.

This set will have serious implications on the race for the division title. The Phillies won Friday's opener, 3-0, to climb within two games of the first- place Mets, meaning a sweep of today's contests would even things up with 19 games to play.

However, a sweep of the doubleheader by New York would move it four games up for the stretch run. It would also put the Mets into a situation similar to last year, when they led the division by seven games with 17 to play, only to lose out on the NL East crown to the Phils on the season's final day.

Sunday's nightcap features the best of each team, as New York's Johan Santana faces off against Cole Hamels of Philadelphia.

Santana hasn't lost since June 28, going 5-0 in 12 starts since. He has allowed more than three runs in just one of those outings and enters this start coming off back-to-back no-decisions.

The first came versus the Phillies on August 27. The left-handed Santana allowed three runs on five hits -- including two homers -- on that day in six innings of his team's eventual 6-3 victory.

Santana then gave up two runs on seven hits over six innings with 10 strikeouts versus the Brewers on Monday, but again didn't factor into the decision.

Still, the Mets have won each of Santana's last six starts. The 29-year-old is 12-7 with a 2.71 earned run average on the season and 1-0 with a 2.94 ERA in five career starts versus the Phils.

Hamels, meanwhile, is undefeated over his last five starts, going 3-0 with a 1.49 ERA. He defeated Washington on Tuesday with 7 1/3 shutout innings, yielding five hits and three walks.

The 24-year-old, who has thrown a career-high 203 innings this year, is 12-8 with a 3.01 ERA and has faced the Mets just once prior this season.

Hamels got a loss at home versus the Mets on April 18, allowing five runs (4 earned) on eight hits over seven innings. He is 1-2 with a 3.27 ERA in five career starts against them.

The day game features a pair of veterans in Philadelphia's Jamie Moyer and New York's Pedro Martinez.

Martinez is 2-0 over his last five starts, including a win on Sunday when he bested Florida with six innings of two-run ball. The 36-year-old righty is 5-3 with a 5.07 ERA this season, but is pitching to a 3.60 ERA in six home starts.

Martinez is 8-5 with a 3.50 ERA in 24 games lifetime versus the Phils, with all but four of those starts. The three-time Cy Young Award winner got a no- decision in his most recent outing against them, a five-run, five-inning outing on August 26.

Moyer also got a no-decision for Philadelphia when it clashed with the Mets on August 26. Moyer was tagged for six runs in just three innings, marking the first time in 15 starts he allowed more than three runs.

The 45-year-old lefty rebounded with a win over the Cubs on Sunday, holding their high-powered offense to a pair of runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings. That win improved Moyer to 12-7 with a 3.80 ERA this year.

Moyer is 6-4 with a 3.11 ERA in 16 career starts against the Mets, and is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA in two starts at Shea this year.

The Phillies have lost 10 of 16 versus the Mets this year after taking 12 of 18 in the 2007 set. Philadelphia is also just 3-4 this year at Shea, which opened in 1964. The Mets move into the brand-new Citi Field next season.
