DENVER – The building at 101 South Broadway that many have come to know as the El Diablo restaurant is getting a new life.
Developers are set to turn the 110-year-old historic building into 102 affordable housing units ranging between $800 and $900 a month.
Developer David Zucker says Denver badly needs more affordable housing.
“There is such a dire need that if we don’t do something about it, then the miracle of growth that we’ve seen in the last few years is going to start to dim,” he said.
A developer purchased the property for $6 million after it was taken over in bankruptcy court, and the city shut down the building due to building code issues.
The building is set to be open for tenants next year. The construction process is set to begin in the next coming weeks.
