LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. – The first case of the West Nile Virus this season has been reported in Larimer County, health officials confirmed to Denver7 Thursday afternoon.
The mosquito was trapped in the Town of Berthoud last week, according to Larimer County Department of Health spokeswoman Katie O’Donnell.
O’Donnell added that this is not unusual, as this is about the time of year health officials start to see the first cases of the West Nile Virus.

DRAIN standing water outside your home.
West Nile Virus is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito. Generally, mosquito season runs from late April until mid-October.
So far, no human cases of the virus have been reported this season.
