DENVER -- September is Baby Safety Awareness Month and our partners at Saint Joseph’s Hospital want to make sure new parents know exactly how to choose and properly install one of the most important safety items for their baby -- a car seat.

“Children should stay rear-facing as absolutely long as they can, minimum age 2 or maximum height and weight restrictions of the car seat manufacturer,” said Dr. Heather Honey with the hospital’s Stapleton Family Medicine center.

St. Joseph’s has a program called “Baby's First Ride” where parents can get help installing car seats. If the seats have already been installed, the hospital staff will inspect it to make sure it was installed correctly.

The state also has its own program, Car Seats Colorado, which has 140 inspection stations across the state where parents can get their children’s car seats inspected.
