DENVER — Just ahead of the "most romantic day of the year," one study is examining exactly how romance can spread disease across the U.S.

BackgroundChecks.org, a site which employs open data analysts to pore through data, ranked Colorado as the 27th most sexually diseased state in the U.S. — squarely in the middle of the pack for all states.

Its neighbors however, appear run the gambit from nearly disease free to severely diseased. The study looked at CDC data to rank New Mexico as the fifth most diseased state with Oklahoma being ranked the eighth most diseased state.

On the other side of the spectrum, Utah is ranked 46th on the list — one of the most STD-free states out there.

The study looked at both Gonorrhea and Chlamydia, finding Colorado to have nearly 82 cases of Gonorrhea per 100,000 residents and just over 445 cases of Chlamydia per 100,000 residents.
