FAIRFIELD, Ohio - It's as mysterious as it is heartbreaking.
An Ohio girl went to bed like she does every night, but this time, 9-year-old Emily Kaufman did not wake up.
Police said her father, Jason Kaufman, went into Emily's room Thursday morning to help get her ready for school and found her dead. The reason for that death remains a puzzle for the community.
"Nine years old is a very robust age," Police Chief Matt Fruchey told WCPO's Jay Warren. "It's quite a mystery at this point."
According to Fruchey, police expect no foul play in Emily's death.
The Kaufman family attends Community Christian Church, where Pastor Scott Swelbar said there are no easy answers.
"We're just providing as much love and support and comfort as we can," he told Warren.
Emily was a fourth grader at North Elementary School. Her principal sent letters home to parents.
An autopsy for Emily is scheduled for Friday.
