DENVER – If you’re still scrambling for a Halloween costume for next weekend but haven’t been able to find one, don’t worry – Colorado itself is a really great inspiration to celebrate this spooky day of the year.
Here are some ideas to get you out the door and win that Halloween costume contest:
1. Blucifer
Perhaps there’s no Colorado creature scarier than Blucifer, the blue horse whose red eyes glow as soon as darkness falls over the City of Denver. Oficially called “Blue Mustang,” Blucifer is recognized by anyone who has traveled by air through Denver International Airport.
2. Blue Bear
This one isn’t as frightening as the first, but it’s still a great idea for Halloween if you don’t want to dress up as Wonder Women or Harley Quinn and want your costume to scream “Denver” as much as possible.
3. A marijuana joint
You know this one was bound to be suggested, after all – Colorado became the first state to legalize recreational marijuana. If you want to go all out, the Cannabist has some more Halloween costume ideas for stoners.
4. The Colorado flag
What could possibly be more Colorado than the Colorado flag itself? It’s simple, and you’re bound to impress someone if you tell them about its meaningful history.
5. The A-Line
Ah, the University of Colorado A-Line. What a spooky thing to ride! Never knowing if it will break down and make you late for work, or worse, to the airport.
If you can’t pull off the costume, at least show up to the party some 45 minutes to two hours late and tell them, “I’m the A-Line. Was that not obvious?” People should get your costume then.
6. A Colorado 14er
You obviously cannot dress as a mountain, but there are other ways to show off this costume. For example, you could carry a sign of the total altitude of the peak and have people guess which 14er you’ve become for the night.
7. Charlie Blackmon
If your mustache got lonely, just like Charlie Blackmon’s, then perhaps it’s time for a facestache. Pulling off this costume should not be hard. Get yourself a Rockies jersey, and get a big, long brown beard and you should be done!
