Halloween for the whole family: 7 events to enjoy with the little ones in Colorado

DENVER – Halloween is associated with haunted houses, horror movies and overall spooky things, leaving many parents wondering what else they could do as a family to have fun on Oct. 31.

Luckily, the Denver metro area is full of Halloween-related events for the whole family. Here are just seven of them:

1. Denver Zoo’s ‘Boo at the Zoo’

The 33rd annual Boo at the Zoo offers trick-or-treat stations, creepy crawly animal demonstrations and exciting family-friendly entertainment under the canopy of the beautiful fall foliage of Denver Zoo.

It starts this weekend and repeats the next from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Buy tickets here.

2. Elitch Gardens’ Fright Fest: Family by Day

The little ones can find free candy on the Trick-or-Treat Trail and pick up a free pumpkin in the Elitch Pumpkin Patch. There will also be costume contests, best scream contest and various themed challenges.

“Family By Day” takes place from noon to 5 p.m. each weekend until October 29. Tickets can be purchased here.

3. Family overnight: Halloween at the Museum

If you’ve ever wanted to spend the night at a museum, this is your chance. The Denver Museum of Nature and Science will treat kids and their families to a night of fun and spooky activities, trick-or-treat trivia and an IMAX film. You can also explore the museum’s temporary exhibit, Mummies: New Secrets from the Tombs.

It’s all taking place on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 27-28, from 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. You can purchase tickets to the event here.

4. Halloween Spooktacular (Boettcher Hall)

Join the Colorado Symphony on October 28 at 2:30 p.m. as the Boettcher Concert Hall as they celebrate All Hallows Eve with the Halloween Spooktacular. The show features music from some of your favorite children’s films and a few other surprises.

If your child attends with a costume, he/she may get the chance to be invited on stage to show it off! Tickets can be purchased here.

5. Thornton Trunk-or-Treat

Thornton’s annual Trunk-or-Treat offers kids of all ages the chance to go from car trunk to car trunk to collect candy from volunteers who went all out and decorated even their cars for Halloween.

Be sure to also check out the Garden of Ghouls (10 years and older) and The Boo Bayou (10 years and younger).

Tickets are $1.

6. Trick-or-Treat Street at the Children’s Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus

Trick-or-Treet Street has become a Halloween tradition at the Children’s Museum of Denver. There, you can take your whole family from one treat house to another and enjoy goodies, play games, and do so much more.

It’s all happening from Oct. 27 through the 29 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets range from $13-15, but it’s free for members.

7. Iluminar Aerial’s performance of ‘Haunted’

Iluminar Aerial Dance will amaze you with Halloween-related tales as they come to life on the stage during an incredible performance of “Haunted.”

Join the art group at their headquarters located at 2655 Industrial Lane in Broomfield on October 28 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.
