DENVER -- Every weekend, Denver7 compiles a list of some family friendly events you might enjoy. Here are our picks for the 7 best things to do across the state of Colorado this weekend.  

1. The 48th Annual Oktoberfest Denver

What: While Oktoberfest is mainly about beer, Denver’s festivities is a family-friend event that showcases a dachshund derby, costume contests, food tastings, polka dancing and, of course, live music.

When: Friday, September 29 and Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Where: Between 20th and 22nd Streets on Larimer Street in the Ballpark neighborhood

Admission: Free, unless you buy a VIP package which can range from $25 to $175.

2. Four Colorado national parks are free Saturday  

What: National Public Lands Day is being celebrated this Saturday, Sept. 30, across the United States of America, which means you can get in free to all national parks across the country for FREE. And yes, that includes Colorado’s four national parks as well.

3. Truck Stop: Food Truck Rally in Historic Five Points

What: You don't have to look far to get a taste of Colorado's incredibly rapid booming food scene, and a whole lot of trucks will help you discover some incredible eats this weekend at the inaugural Truck Stop: Food Truck Rally in Historic Five Points. Enjoy all of the above while grooving to the soulful sounds of Lee Fields & The Expressions, performing live for the event! 

When: Saturday, Sept. 30 from noon to 6 p.m.

Where: Welton Street between 24th and 29th

4. The 2017 Grand Junction Airshow

What: Grand Junction Air Show 2017 presented by West Star Aviation is soaring back into town! Join us September 30th and October 1st as Western Colorado welcomes back one of the most exciting air shows in Colorado. Parking is free this year.

When: Saturday, Sept. 30 and Sunday, Oct. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: 2828 Walker Field Drive in Grand Junction

Admission: $35 for adults ($30 if bought in advanced), $10 for children ages 6 through 12 and kids under 5 get in free.

5. Elk Fest in Estes Park

What: You’ve heard of rutting season, but have you gotten close enough to experience the majestic bugle of a bull elk? Head on out to Estes Park to get a front-row seat as the elk show off their best attributes at the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park. At the fest, you can learn about rutting season, as well as participate in a bugling contest and see traditional performances from Native Americans in the region.

6. Chalk Art Street Fest in Longmont

What: Missed Denver’s Chalk Art Fest and still have a craving to see some incredible artwork? Then head on out to the Longmont Chalk Art Fest happening this weekend to watch over two dozen artists on their hands and knees creating some spectacular works of art.

When: Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 pm.

Where: 600 Longs Peak Avenue in Longmont

7. The 13th Floor Haunted House, The Asylum are here for another spooky season

What: Explore a seemingly abandoned manor that is home to evil permanent residents who were unwittingly awakened by a local psychic; and visit the eerie town of Coalfell where strange reports describe terrorizing shape shifting creatures, which most often take the form of evil clowns. A night of excitement and thrills await; the spine-tingling scares start the moment you step out of your car.

But the scares don’t end there.

A few miles east of downtown lies the secret resting ground for lost souls. Enter The Asylum to discover a body of a victim lost to a ghastly disease. What begins as a tour quickly turns into a trap and a race against the clock for survival. Then, battle through bloodthirsty zombies in hopes of finding sanctuary from demonic creatures. Before leaving, take a visit to Ridgegate Hospital, where the dangerous and deranged patients are the least of your worries and fears. The Asylum is a horrifying head trip for all who dare to enter.
