Parker Arts and Dylan's Down with the Arts team up to bring a special needs camp to the community

Camp runs Monday – Friday, July 7 – 11, 2014

Parker, CO - The Town of Parker’s Cultural Department announces partnership with Dylan’s Down with the Arts, an organization that provides monthly arts programs for kids with special needs.Together, they will be offering a week-long summer camp for individuals with special needs, and typical peers, who have an interest in theater.

Individuals ages 6 and up will be given instruction in singing, acting and dance choreography. The week will end with a performance for the parents. Partner volunteers will be available for all participants with special needs.

Stephen and Leslie Secrist were inspired to create “Dylan’s Down with the Arts” because of their oldest son, Dylan. Dylan has always loved to sing, dance, act, and take pictures but Stephen and Leslie were finding less and less opportunities for him to do the things he loves as he grew older.

They wanted to provide more options for kids and adults with special needs to make their lives more fulfilling. Whether an individual is gifted in the area of the arts or just enjoys being creative, Stephen and Leslie want to provide through DDWA a fun, loving, and safe environment for them to explore the arts. Leslie adds that “Our summer theater camp is a welcoming environment for all levels of abilities or disabilities and an opportunity for them to shine on stage!”

The Town of Parker's Cultural Department offers a variety of classes for youth and adults at the PACE Center and the Mainstreet Center. Dylan’s Down with the Arts Theater Camp runs Monday – Friday, July 7 – 11 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. Fees are $150 for Parker residents and $165 for non-residents.
