DENVER – It felt like winter on Saturday, but it feels like summer today – and not because of the weather.

Elitch Gardens is officially open for the season, signaling the unofficial start of the summer here in Denver, and the amusement park is ready to surprise thrill seekers with not one, but two new rides this year.

The first is the Star Flyer, a swing ride that’s not for the faint of heart.

The ride lifts riders 17 stories into the air while spinning around at up to 50 miles per hour. The ride also has different patterns, so it will feel a little different each time you ride.

But the fun doesn’t end there.

The Mega Wedgie will be sliding into the Denver theme park this summer. The new water attraction is actually three speed slides affixed to a six-story tower. Riders will reach speeds of 40 miles per hour before hitting the bottom, according a press release.

The water park opens May 27.
