The Florence-Penrose School District is considering changing to a four-day school week, hoping it will help recruit and retain teachers.

However, some parents are worried how to find child care on Fridays if the school doors are closed.

Superintendent Rhonda Roberts says the district will conduct a survey with families and the community to see if the idea has support. She says a 2010 community survey found that 75 percent of the nearly 400 people surveyed said they would be in favor of a four-day school week.

According to the Canon City Daily Record, officials are considering day care and child care options for families that need help.
