DENVER -- Escape rooms are having a moment. These interactive experiences — in which people voluntarily get locked in a room and then have to solve a series of puzzles to make their way out before the hour is up — are popping up all over. Downtown’s Solutions Lounge and Restaurant is, somewhat inexplicably, the first and only escape room in town that also serves booze and food.

Adding the bar and restaurant was a no-brainer for Tina Ronder, who owns Solutions (a franchise of Escapology, an escape room chain) with her husband, Vic.

“They were very mom and pop,” Ronder said of most of the escape rooms she’d visited. “We wanted something more corporate, more Disneyesque. We were in the lobby of one and I said, ‘Where’s the waitress? Why would anyone do this without a glass of wine first?'”

Mixing food and drink into the escape room concept seems like a great idea. So much so that I decided to go and eat and drink as much as humanly possible and then get myself locked in a room.
