'Bomb' Scare Caused By Geocaching Capsule
Streets Evacuated, School Locked Down Because Of 'Threat'

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A high-tech treasure hunt led to a bomb scare and evacuations in central Colorado Springs.Someone called Colorado Springs police Wednesday after spotting a man placing a cylinder near a medical facility.Officers located three suspicious-looking devices and notified the explosives unit. The devices were rendered safe.
Additional investigation revealed the devices were not explosives, but rather containers for geocaching.Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using GPS coordinates listed on various Web sites.The Galileo School of Math and Science was locked down and portions of Mt. Everett and Mt. Vernon streets were evacuated while police blew up the devices.
