Little Brown Jug Goes To Mr Feelgood

POSTED: 5:24 pm MDT September 21, 2006

(Sports Network) - The 61st running of the Little Brown Jug has been won by Mr Feelgood and driver Mark MacDonald. The Little Brown Jug is the second leg of pacing's Triple Crown.

Mr Feelgood won the second heat of the Little Brown Jug over Cactus Creek and Armbro Deuce. The time for the mile was 1:50 3/5 on the half-mile track at the Delaware County Fair.

Sent off at odds of 8-5, Mr Feelgood sat right behind the front running Armbro Deuce. Mr Feelgood moved along side the leader on the final turn and assumed the lead at the top of the stretch. The final margin of victory was 1 3/4 lengths.

Completing the order of finish was Total Truth, Texas Shootout, Armbro Dynamic, True North Hanover, Western Ace and Doonbeg, who broke stride.

Trained by Jimmy Takter, Mr Feelgood won the first elimination race which entitled him to the inside post for the final. Cactus Creek won the second elimination race and had post 2 for the final. Texas Shootout won the third elimination race as a 55-1 longshot.

Finishing out of the money in the $259,707 final was Total Truth, the winner of the Cane Pace. The Cane Pace is the first leg of the Triple Crown. The last leg is the Messenger Stakes at Yonkers Raceway in November.

Mr Feelgood is owned by the Camerica Corp., Diversity Stable, and Lindy Farms of Connecticut. In his career the three-year-old pacer has won nine of 23 starts for more than $450,000. He was coming into the Little Brown Jug off a third place finish behind Armbro Deuce in the Simcoe Stakes at Mohawk Raceway in Canada.

This was the first win of the Little Brown Jug for both MacDonald and Takter. This year alone Mr Feelgood has won eight of 16 starts.

An attendance of 52,087 was announced.
