DENVER -- Officials at the Colorado Health Department said Friday that of the five reported E. coli cases in Colorado, only one is linked to a multistate outbreak related to raw spinach.Department spokesman Mark Salley said the one case that was confirmed to be related to the 23-state outbreak was out of Gunnison County. A resident there was sickened after eating spinach. Two cases from Boulder County and two cases from Denver were also tested by health officials but they were not related.
State and federal investigators are focusing their hunt for the origin of the bacteria to farms in California's greater Salinas Valley. One person has died in the outbreak while investigators are looking into three other deaths. At least 150 people have been sickened by this strain of E. coli.
