Public Reacts After One Week Of Smoking Ban

Denver Health Inspectors Have Not Issued Any Citations

On July 1, a smoking ban was put into effect for Colorado, and one week later, Denver health inspectors have not handed out a single citation.

As far as how the public feels about the new legislation, most Denver residents seem to indicate the ban was a good move.

At Lodo's, a location affected by the ban, the wait staff seemed happy about the change.

"Since we've had the non smoking ban, I definitely notice that I feel better when I get done with work," said Lodo's server Becky Kinnison.

Kinnison isn't alone. In fact, some believe the ban will not only keep people healthy, but will also boost sales.

"If Ireland can do it, where pub life and smoking is like a way of life, if they can do it, we can do it here. It's not that big of a deal," said former smoker Britta Gentle.

However, some still feel the ban infringes on smokers' rights.

"It's your own choice. You put yourself in that situation. It's just as bad to breathe downtown with all the pollution," said smoker Melissa Gonzales.

Despite Denver's good record, confusion still exists about whether or not smoking is allowed on patios. The best solution is if you have any questions to check with the wait staff wherever you choose to dine out.
