Busted Pipes Force Evacuations, School Closures

DENVER -- First there was the big freeze over the weekend. Now comes the big thaw and the ensuing headaches.The Red Cross set up an emergency shelter because of broken pipes at an apartment complex in the 3300 block of South Tamarac. The building was evacuated after it started flooding. Roughly 50 to 75 residents left with their pets."I just came home and the whole first floor was flooded," said one resident of the Tamarac Drive Apartments.
The Red Cross shelter is set up at Hamilton Middle School.Busted pipes have also led to several school closures.Pine Lane Intermediate School at 6485 E. Ponderosa will be closed Tuesday because the school has an inch of water in two wings of the school.Collegiate Academy of Colorado, at 8420 S. Sangre De Cristo Road, and Willows Old Mill Child Learning Center at South Homestead Parkway are also closed Tuesday because of broken water pipes.Please watch 7NEWS at 10 p.m. for more on this story.
