DENVER -- We've all seen people who have had facelifts and they look like they've been in a wind tunnel. But one local doctor has pioneered a new facelift procedure that promises to eliminate the "pulled-back" look.
Cindy is one of the people who was getting the four-hour procedure known as the 4-dimensional facelift.
"I don't mind aging but I don't want to age prematurely," she said. She hopes to turn back the clock and boost her self-esteem by getting a facelift."Four years ago, I lost over 100 pounds. It's been great but it has really aged my skin, especially in my face and my neck," she said. But the 4-D facelift is not a typical facelift procedure. It combines numerous procedures including a browlift, eyelid surgery, cheek implants and laser resurfacing.Dr. Thomas Stone, who performed Cindy's surgery, addressed every anatomical layer of the face working from the inside out."Most of the incisions are made inside the mouth," he said. This technique is supposed to eliminate the "wind-tunnel" look of traditional face-lifts, he said."Rather than giving the patient the stretched look and tightened skin, muscles, fat pads and tissues are repositioned in a more youthful position," he said. "For many years surgeons would pull the skin back and hope that everything would stay."
With the 4-D facelift, the results will last longer and patients will heal faster with very little bruising, Stone said. When Cindy came home the day of the surgery she was all wrapped up. One day after surgery, she said, "I'm obviously very swollen."On day two it looked like Cindy was in pain but she insisted that she was just a little uncomfortable. Three days after surgery and Cindy is a little concerned."I'm getting weary of being so swollen and not recognizing myself in the mirror," she said. But Stone insists days three, four and five are the worst and for Cindy, they are.On day 15, the swelling and redness have really gone down and seven weeks after the surgery, Cindy is looking great and feeling great."I can't believe it's only been two weeks since my surgery. I'm feeling really good about myself and I am really happy with the results," she said. But she says it wasn't easy."It wasn't as painful as I thought physically but it was a little bit harder than I thought emotionally. It's hard not to see yourself for a few weeks with all the swelling," she said. The 4-D facelift is not for everyone. Stone said there are many new procedures out there so it's important to discuss the options with your doctor.More Information:
