You can't turn back the clock on sun-damaged aging skin but you can now restore your skin with less pain and risk. A revolutionary new laser procedure that treats wrinkles, sunspots and acne scars is now being offered in Colorado.

Women will endure a little pain and a blue face all in an effort to repair damaged skin and to look younger.

"The Fraxel procedure is a new and revolutionary way to resurface the skin," said Dr. Alexis Parker, with Lasair Aesthetic Health.

This new laser treatment is music to the ears of many women like 33-year-old Christina, who did not want to use her last name.

"I wanted to resurface the areas of acne scarring on my face and also the pregnancy mask or melasma that I had gotten when I was pregnant," Christine said.

After two treatments you can see a remarkable difference.

"I've noticed my skin is smoother, the dark spots are diminishing," said Christine.

"The laser is set up so it removes the skin in tiny fragments," Parker said. "You remove approximately 20 percent of the skin each time you treat."

It's like having Photoshop for your face, rebuilding damaged skin pixel by pixel, spot by spot.

"It protects the skin in between those pixels," Parker said.

Leaving healthy skin in between speeds up the healing process.

"The redness lasts a short period of time, anywhere from two days to seven days. Many patients go right back to work," Parker said.

Compare that with other laser treatments that leave the face very red for up to six months.

The Fraxel laser treatment does have side effects including some redness like a light sunburn, slight swelling, itching, and flaking off of the old skin.

The treatment itself can be a little painful.

"Before we treat we give them a very mild pain medication," said Parker.

And the blue tint is washed off after the 30-minute procedure. Christina has at least one treatment to go, but for her, the pain and time is worth it.

"I never thought my scarring would go away," Christina said.

Additional Information:

The face laser treatment can cost anywhere from $800 to $2,500 and is done in a series of three to five treatments. There are two doctors in the metro area offering the Fraxel laser treatment.
