Sick Boy Dies 9 Months After Bone Marrow Transplant
Mexican National Brought To U.S. Illegally For Treatment

DENVER -- A 5-year-old Mexican boy who was given a $314,000 bone marrow transplant at Denver's Children's Hospital has died.
Oscar Hernandez, 5 (pictured, left), had leukemia and need the transplant to give him a chance to live. Oscar's father brought him from Mexico to the United States illegally so that he could get the surgery.
The transplant was performed at Children's Hospital February.
Oscar died in his sleep Nov. 23 and his death was announced Wednesday.
In addition to school fundraisers, radio stations and Bank One collected money, and KJME radio held an auction.
The Hernandez family issued a statement thanking Denver area residents who contributed to Oscar and his family, both with prayers and financial support.
