The Colorado Department of Health said a 46-year-old Jefferson County woman died Oct. 4 after suffering from encephalitis. She was the third West Nile virus-related death in Jefferson County.

A 65-year-old Boulder County man died on Sept. 24. He was also suffering from encephalitis. He was the fourth West Nile virus-related death in Boulder County.

Sixty-eight new human cases of West Nile virus were also reported Thursday by the state Health Department. That brings the state's total for the season to 2,403.

State health officials said that the most recent deaths and the new human cases are for individuals who were infected with West Nile virus in late-August through mid-September.
