Nine months have passed since 7NEWS Meteorologist Pam Daale got the diagnosis that a lump she had found in her breast was cancer.

Pam finished chemotherapy and last week, took the next step. Surgery, she hopes, will prevent any reoccurrence.

"You and your family have been in my prayers and will continue to. I'll be praying for you and a full recovery," Pam read from a card.

It's prayers like that that have helped her through her battle with cancer, with quiet support guiding her way.

"Going into surgery, I was so completely at peace, never concerned about a thing," Pam said. "Because I tested positive for the breast cancer gene and I had a high risk of re-occurrence, I thought I want to minimize that risk, and that's why we decided to do a bilateral mastectomy."

Pam doesn't remember much about the surgery -- just the IV going in and later, being told that she was joking in the recovery room.

What she does remember is the news she received two days later.

"There's no cancer there, there's no cancer anywhere, so we have gotten just fabulous news, we are so thankful," Pam said, smiling.

While Pam and her family celebrate, she is taking it easy with her recovery.

"I don't want to just sit with my elbows plastered against my sides, because that doesn't feel good, I have to be able to move around," she said.

While Pam enjoys reading the good thoughts sent to her from viewers, she knows it's not over yet. There is more surgery ahead. Implants and other reconstructive work will take about nine months.

"It is so worth the inconvenience of the surgery to know I have less than 2 percent chance of getting reoccurring breast cancer. I have less of a chance than the general population does. That's nice to know," Pam said.

What's also nice to know is that her spirit continues to be strengthened by her faith.

"Even before going into surgery, I just felt covered by prayers. I just knew the outcome was going to be good," Pam said.

Pam appears to be well on her way to recovery and expects to return to work next weekend.
