DENVER -- The U.S. Census Bureau has released its numbers showing the staggering amount of Coloradoans who are uninsured.1 in 6 Coloradoans went without insurance in 2008. Denver and Aurora had the highest uninsured rates in the state.Warren True told 7NEWS he was one of the ones who couldn't find insurance this year after it was discovered he might have a thyroid problem.
"I am 62 years old. I have been in great shape, great health all my life. I just climbed a 14,000 ft. peak but I am denied health insurance," said True.David Myers, CEO of the Metro Community Provider Network, said the healthcare system he manages has been seeing the number of uninsured patients spike. He said they never turn away patients but they don't have any room for new ones. Already the clinic said they see about 4,000 patients a year. On average, they receive about 8,000 calls for help."We are at capacity. We can't meet the entire demand," said Myers.Myers said MCPN had 13 clinics but was forced to shut down three last week when the state cut their budget by 20 percent.
