Colorado Children To Test Flu Vaccine
Research Clinic Looking For Volunteers

THORNTON, Colo. -- A Colorado research clinic is starting tests of an H1N1 flu vaccine to determine if it’s safe and if it works in children.It’s part of a worldwide effort to roll out the vaccine to the public by mid-October and prevent a possible pandemic this winter.Parents have been calling the IMMUNOe International Research Centers in Thornton to find out more.
They want their kids to be protected, even if they’re concerned about whether this rushed vaccine could have harmful side effects.Dr. Matthew Daley, a vaccine safety researcher with the University of Colorado at Denver, said vaccines have evolved since the 1976 flu immunization program that had serious complications.He said the H1N1 vaccine uses similar technology to the seasonal flu vaccine so the risks are minimized.The study in Thornton needs about 100 children to test the vaccine.It will be finished by the end of the month.
