Quest Diagnostics Admits Some Blood Tests Were Wrong

POSTED: 2:40 pm MST January 9, 2009

The nation's largest medical laboratory, Quest Diagnostics, says some of their blood test results were wrong.

Quest told doctors their Vitamin D tests performed over a two-year period were inaccurate and could have misled patients into thinking they were healthier than they are.

A Vitamin D deficiency is directly linked to weak bones -- a condition called rickets.

But not enough Vitamin D can also contribute to heart attacks, auto-immune disorders and cancer.

Quest says most of its false test results over-estimated people's Vitamin D levels, which may that mean people who should have been put on Vitamin D supplements, were not.
